Alist Summer hang outs, like the stars themselves, can be graded into A,B and C and beyond. And one place that gets a AAA+ is the Costa Smerelda on the north east coast of Sardinia. The jet set have been coming here since the 60s, when the Aga Khan chose to build a resort on this stunning stretch of craggy coast line with its Caribbean-like emerald green seas (that where 'Smerelda' bit comes from) and sands that are pure and white.
Many of the celebs are either holed up in their villas or one their yachts but you'll see one or two shopping at the stores of the area's main hub, Porto Cervo, a slightly twee, reproduction fishing village that feels like designer toytown.
They also make the occasional sortie to Smerelda's chi-chi nightclub Billionaire (www.billionairelife.com), where, as the name implies, you'll find the mega rich and the mega beautiful partying the warm nights away in one of Italy's most glam clubs in the Summer months.
If you're not into nightlife, it's worth going for the beaches alone, they rank as some of the beautiful in the world. Our favourite, and Naomi Campbell's too, is Cala Liscia Ruja. If you want to rub shoulders with the A list, Ryanair(www.ryanair.com) flies daily to Alghero airport, on the north-west coast of the island, with prices from a very un A-list £25 one way.
