Franken-Fashion: Fall's Hybrid Pieces by Vogue.Com

Looking at the fall shows, it’s clear that fashion has jumped on the hybrid bandwagon lately; and by that we certainly don’t mean the latest fuel-efficient Toyota Prius. I’m talking about ingenious new ways to combine two seemingly opposing looks into one. Take this Chanel jacket, for example. On the surface it’s a little cropped bolero, but go inside and you’ll find a boyfriend blazer hiding underneath. One could call it grunge-style layering, but actually this is exactly the way we’re all dressing today: Perhaps you run out of the house in a trench, but keep a velvet gilet tucked away for later. After all, who knows where the day—or night—may take you? Long on one side, short on the other, The Row’s sequin-and-chiffon evening dress is fabulous from all angles, much like Comme des Garçon’s new golden coat; there’s more to these pieces than meets
the eye. It’s fashion at its most multifaceted, and that always makes for multifold fun.
